List of railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia

Rheydt Central Station (German: Rheydt Hauptbahnhof) is a railway station in Mönchengladbach, Germany. It is unique in the fact that Mönchengladbach is actually the only city in Germany that does have two stations called Hauptbahnhof associated with it. This is the result of the merger of the city Rheydt into Mönchengladbach in the late 1970s.

Rheydt Hbf and Mönchengladbach

After the merging of the two cities the station was not renamed to Mönchengladbach-Rheydt as in all other cases where cities were merged in the 1970s. The Deutsche Bundesbahn retained the name (and the name of suburban stops like Rheydt-Odenkirchen). Therefore, Mönchengladbach is the only city in Germany to have two stations named central station, Mönchengladbach Hbf and Rheydt Hauptbahnhof.
